Businesses invited to help set BID Budget at series of workshops in May
Plans to develop a Business Improvement District in Tamworth are gathering pace, with businesses in the area now being invited to help shape the plan, define the boundary and influence the potential BID levy.
More workshops are being held in Tamworth in May when businesses within the proposed BID zone will be asked to consider what issues should be addressed as part of the BID Business Plan and help set the potential BID Budget.
So far, the views of hundreds of businesses in Tamworth town centre, the Riverside area and retail parks have been sought and their feedback is being collated.
A number of key themes and issues are emerging which will be used to form the basis of a Business Plan of objectives that a BID would seek to deliver. The finalised plan will be put to a vote of all businesses within the BID zone in October.
Before that, businesses now have another opportunity to get involved and have their say. Survey forms can be downloaded via the BID Tamworth website at www.bidtamworth.co.uk and the workshops are open for all businesses in the potential BID zone to attend.
Workshops take place at the following dates and times:
Tuesday May 16
8am-9.30am – The Globe Inn, Lower Gungate
12.30pm-2pm – Ankerside Management Suite, Ankerside Shopping Centre
5.30pm-7pm – Roaster’s Restaurant, Ventura Park
Wednesday May 17
2pm-3.30pm – Tamworth Enterprise Centre (former Phil Dix Centre), Corporation Street
5.30pm-7pm – The Globe Inn, Lower Gungate

Rob Holder, Chairman of the BID Tamworth Steering Group and John Lewis Tamworth branch manager, said: “A BID is a business-led initiative, which means that your ideas will shape it for the next five years, so if you haven’t yet met with a member of the team to fill out the BID survey, you need to get in touch.
“To date we have received some great ideas from the workshops and one-to-one interviews and surveys held.
“So far, ‘development of the town’s identity and branding to attract more visitors’ has come out as the top issue which needs to be addressed by the BID Business Plan.
“We also hear that parking, signage and simply finding your way around are key issues in all areas, as well as more marketing of the events in the Castle Grounds so that businesses can benefit from them.
“Businesses in the Riverside area say they feel forgotten about and yet with so much on offer from the SnowDome to the swimming pool, paddle boarding, cycling, the football club and the cinema, it is a leisure destination in its own right.
“At the budget setting workshops on May 16 and 17, you are going to have the opportunity to prioritise the projects that mean the most to you as a business. This business plan is what you will be voting for in October so you need to make sure you benefit from it.
“I am confident that a BID will help us achieve our ambitions, bring local businesses together to work collectively and improve our town centre. Businesses have a chance to decide on the priorities for projects – it is your town, therefore it is your choice!”
Businesses attending the workshops will also be asked to help determine what the BID levy should be. A 1% levy (based on a business’s rateable value) would generate an annual revenue of more than £345,000 for the BID, while a 2% levy would generate more than £690,000 a year.
If a BID ballot is successful, it would be in effect for five years before another vote would have to take place.
This is a critical period in the development of the BID proposal and Business Plan and the views of all affected businesses are needed to ensure the plan contains the right projects and objectives to support all.
