Enjoy February half-term with magic tales at Tamworth Castle’s Story Trail

Storyteller event at Tamworth Castle

Stories of heroes and villains, brave children and rags to riches will be brought to life as part of a Story Trail event at Tamworth Castle this half term.

The special event, set to be held from Tuesday, February 22, to Sunday, February 27, invites visitors to dress up in their favourite story-themed costumes and help storyteller Maria Credali find the lost stories that have escaped from her book, as well as listen to her charming tales.

The Lichfield-based artist, dancer and scientist, who was a main stage performer at East Anglian Storytelling Festival and commissioned in 2021 by the Royal Shakespeare Company, will headline Tamworth Castle with tales to hypnotise the young and old.

Before Maria jets off to the Marrakech International Storytelling Festival later this month, visitors to the castle will have the opportunity to hear stories of rags to riches, of heroes and villains, of clever children, and one or two stories that are just plain silly!

Creative writers and storytelling fanatics can take their passion further by heading into the Great Hall and adding a few lines to make a collaborative story by continuing someone else’s lines to build a cohesive tale.

Working in partnership with Tamworth Arts and Events team, access to this special event is charged at the Castle’s normal entry fee.

Whilst at Tamworth Castle, visitors can take their experience of the award-winning heritage site to the next level by taking a ride into the past with Tamworth Castle’s Battle and Tribute exhibition.

Opened in 2021, the £768,000 interactive state-of-the-art exposition showcases the town’s rich Anglo-Saxon history and is decked with a variety of features – containing a mead hall, an immersive combat film experience, a unique touch-table strategy game and pieces of the legendary Staffordshire Hoard, alongside other Anglo-Saxon artefacts.

In addition to travelling back in time through the Battle and Tribute exhibition, guests at Tamworth Castle can also delve deep into the virtual reality world via the Augmented Reality Trail.

People can use the ground-breaking Tamworth AR Explorer app to see the spirits of the castle and discover its stories at the fingertips of their smartphone. The interactive mobile app, which is used by scanning the AR marker in each room, also has unique selfie filters and the Castle’s Memory Keeper, a companion to guide visitors as they explore the premises.

The app is free to download for Apple IOS and Android devices from their respective app stores.

There is lots to do inside the castle with dress-up and hands-on activities available for children.

And plenty of sporty activities outside the castle for youngsters to enjoy too, including a fantastic children’s play area, skate park, tennis courts and table tennis tables, making it the perfect fun day out.
