Lace Wars Re-enactment

This Lace Wars re-enactment portrays life during the Mid-Eighteenth Century. The period covers famous events such as the 1745 Jacobite Rebellion led by Bonnie Prince Charlie, the conquest of Canada during the Seven Years War under General Wolfe, the defeat of French forces in India under Clive of India and the beginnings of the Industrial Revolution in Britain.

The weekend activities will include:

• British Army personnel based in the Great Hall along with a Sutlery (kitchen)
  • Sutler’s display with food from the period on display (this will provide lunch for the soldiers on both days)
  • “off duty” British Soldiers giving talks and showing weaponry and equipment
• Jacobite Army personnel based in the Tudor Room
  • Jacobite’s (and hopefully French) soldiers giving talks on weaponry and equipment
• Upper Class / Officer’s Quarters based in the Drawing Room
  • Officers family taking tea
  • Showing upper class pursuits such as cards, embroidery etc

British Army sentries on gate throughout the day to engage with visitors.

A number of public arena displays each day with commentary showing British Army Drill, Jacobite Tactics and general history of the period.
