“Talk the Torc” at Tamworth Castle

Torc the talk

Lee Bates, (who is also Deputy Lieutenant of Staffordshire) will be at Tamworth Castle in the Saxon Gallery to provide visitors with a “Talk the Torc” on the Glascote Torc.

Lee has kindly volunteered to showcase the Torc, which his grandfather uncovered in Glascote in 1943; to tell the story of its discovery over 80 years ago; how it was hidden away for nearly 30 years before being recognised for what it is, how it ended up in Birmingham for the next 55 years, and finally 82 years later, after several years of negotiation between Tamworth Castle and Birmingham Museum Trust the Glascote Torc is finally on display in its home town.
