Touring theatre continues for the summer season

Theatre is continuing on tour in Tamworth, bringing a variety of professional productions to venues across the borough.

The project - Touring Theatre - has produced a range of high-quality shows that started from April this year. All performances have been staged in familiar but unusual community locations in a bid to increase opportunities for people to experience the arts.

Local community groups have been working hard to create a new and varied line up of shows and acts for Tamworth families and visitors to enjoy over the coming months with support from Tamworth Borough Council’s Arts and Events team through the Arts in Unusual Spaces project, funded by Arts Council England.

This includes more Assembly Rooms on Tour, taking some of the theatre’s favourite performers out into community locations, and popular seasonal outdoor events.

Minima Nosferatu – “A Symphony of Horror (1922)”.

Sacred Heart Church  (B77 2EA): Friday, May 18, 7pm

Live and Local present a haunting masterpiece of classic silent cinema. Commonly known as the first cinematic adaption of the ‘Dracula’ and the film that made vampire myths popular, more than anything since Bram Stoker’s original novel. Tickets are priced at £8 adults, £6 concessions and £25 for group of 4 (2 adults 2 children).

The Fabularium – “The Town Band of Bremen”.

Tamworth Castle Grounds: Tuesday, May 29, 11am and 2pm

The Fabularium are back with their outdoor family show about four fellow animals who all share a passion for music.

Meet the amazing-yet-mismatched musical family who are journeying to play the gig of a lifetime in the land of the free, to become The Town Band of Bremen. The show includes storytelling, live music, mask work and puppetry.

This event is FREE and audiences are welcome to bring blankets, deck chairs and picnic to enjoy this show

Liberty Rocks presents - Marie Celestial

Tamworth Castle Grounds: Saturday, June 9, 11am and 2.30pm

Join us on the upper lawn for a live aerial circus. This show tells the story of a strange and otherworldly culture of people from a destroyed planet, who have awoken among us. They are trying to revive their broken, semi-sentient vessel, known as the Marie Celestial.

Audiences can expect to see a large mechanical space galleon, created from recycled objects, which houses a physical theatre performance taking place throughout the vessel and the surrounding area.

Marie Celestial is a free, magical performance of clockwork, fire and puppetry for all the family to enjoy.

The Arts and Events team have worked hard to put together a packed programme of entertainment while the town’s historic Tamworth Assembly Rooms undergoes a major refurbishment.

The project has now entered the construction phase and we want to share the journey with you as well as the theatre’s history and future. You can follow the Assembly
