Pop-culture icons to be celebrated at Tamworth Assembly Rooms through summer of live music and entertainment

The Auditorium in the Assembly Rooms

Tamworth Assembly Rooms is set to pay tribute to pop-culture icons including Stevie Wonder, Elton John and Billy Joel as well as celebrating Jerry Lee Lewis’ classic hit, Great Balls of Fire.

The glitz and glamour of each superstar’s career will be revisited by world-travelled performers during a season of live music.

Fans of Sir Elton John will have the opportunity to travel back through his 50-year career, during his tribute show I’m Still Standing, and dance to classics such as Don’t Go Breaking My Heart, Rocket Man and Candle in the Wind – just to name a few.

To help honour his career, Joel Buckingham will reprise his role as the British legend – having performed as Elton John at prestigious venues all over the world including Alexandra Palace. Mr Buckingham, who will be joined by a live band, will bring to life Elton John’s legacy through outrageous outfits and glasses from the early 1970s to modern day.

Elton John’s tribute show is scheduled to take place on Friday, September 24 with the show starting at 7.30pm. Tickets for the show are priced at £26.

Not only will Tamworth be treated to an Elton John production, but a Stevie Wonder tribute show, too, which makes its way to the market town on Saturday, September 25.

Mesmeric vocalist Noel McCalla and award-winning saxophonist Derek Nash will team up to pay tribute to Stevie Wonder – with his Some Kinda Wonderful tribute show featuring a catalogue of his tracks, from Signed, Sealed, Delivered through to Hotter than July and Innervisions.

Tickets cost £23.50 with the doors opening at 6.30pm and the show starting at 7.30pm.

Before ‘Elton John’ and ‘Stevie Wonder’ take to the Assembly Rooms stage, the Keeping the Faith – The Billy Joel Collection will kick off the series of tribute events.

Considered by many to be one of the best-selling artists in history, Gaz Jenkins will showcase the Grammy Award winning and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer’s illustrious career by playing a collection of his records including Uptown Girl, River of Dreams and My Life.

The show is set for Friday, September 3rd with doors opening at 6.30pm and the show starting at 7.30pm. Tickets for the Billy Joel show cost £21.50.

Another not-to-miss tribute show coming to the Assembly Rooms this autumn pays homage to the iconic Great Balls of Fire – headlined by Barry Steele and featuring the music of Roy Orbison, Johnny Cash and Jerry Lee Lewis.

Ripping through the songbook of the great rock and roll legend Jerry Lee Lewis will be a fabulous five-piece band and Boogie Williams with his smoking hot piano. The show will also feature special guests such as Richard Day as Johnny Cash.

It takes place Friday, August 24. Doors will open at 6.30pm and the show will begin at 7.30pm. Tickets for this event cost £24.
