Popular annual events Fireworks Spectacular and Tamworth Christmas Lights Festival are coming to town this November.

Breath-taking fireworks will see November start with a bang on Saturday, November 2, in the Castle Grounds. Entertainment including fire performers, face painting and a fun fair will return, in what is guaranteed to be another incredible night of fun for all the family.

This year’s impressive display of fireworks, set to a musical theme of well-known TV theme tunes, will light up the skies above Tamworth at 7pm, with entertainment taking place from 5.30pm.

The Christmas Lights Festival, sponsored by Ankerside Shopping Centre, will take place on Sunday, November 24, from 1pm and promises another jam-packed afternoon of festive fun for the whole family. Activities include fairground rides, live music and dance performances, Christmas market, walk about characters, a nativity under the Town Hall and face painting.

Entertainment will centre around the Touch FM stage in St Editha’s Square with a variety of live performances from 3pm.

Youngsters are being invited to be a part of the lights festival with this year’s Christmas Lantern Parade. Children will be able to make special lanterns during two free-to-attend workshops that are being led by popular Tamworth artist, Maggie Carney.

The sessions will take place in Ankerside Shopping Centre on Saturday, October 26 and also on Saturday, November 16.  Sessions will be at 10am-12pm and 1pm-3pm both days.

The parade of children will be joined by local community group representatives, as they walk through the Castle Grounds carrying the new lantern designs as a key part of the town’s annual Christmas Lights Festival.

This year the aim is to create a parade that represents the 12-days of Christmas, with the involvement of 12 different community groups. All children across the town are invited to take part in the parade and help launch the festive season in style, including the opportunity to join in a sing-a-long at the main stage in St Editha’s square with Touch FM.

The annual free fireworks display and Christmas lights festival are highlights of Tamworth’s impressive calendar of outdoor events and organised by Tamworth Borough Council’s Arts & Events team. Both events usually draw thousands of visitors from across the area.

Cllr John Chesworth, Tamworth Borough Council’s Cabinet member for Operational Services & Culture, said: “We all look forward to November’s winter outdoor events as it marks the start of the main countdown to Christmas.

“These are incredibly popular events in our calendar of free entertainment for residents and visitors to enjoy. We look forward to seeing the town celebrating next month.”
