Heroes & Foes event this weekend

A Dr Who legend is one of three special guests visiting Ankerside this weekend, as the shopping centre teams up with Geeks Events to host a special ‘Heroes & Foes’ event.

From 9am on Saturday 10 August, Tamworth can expect geekmania to sweep the town, with Colin Baker from Dr Who and Mickey Lewis aka Cyberman also from the cult TV show, will both be making an appearance at Ankerside, alongside Simon Fisher-Becker better known as Fat Friar from Harry Potter.

Heroes & Foes is a free, family-friendly fun day featuring a trader market in the Octagon seating area, which will be packed with cool collectibles. There will be a cosplay element and competition, with event-goers encouraged to dress up as their favourite hero or villain for a chance to win a prize.

There will be photo opportunities aplenty with a selection of props, including a life-size ET, Rocket Racoon and Gollum on display, giving fans a chance to pose with these much-loved characters.

Deadpool and the Star Wars costume group, The East Midlands Garrison will also be available for photos with visitors. And just when you think it couldn’t get any geekier, there will also be a retro gaming area for visitors to step back in time to play some old-school classics.

Mark Burbridge, centre manager at Ankerside, says he is thrilled that the event is coming to town. “We are very excited to be joining forces with Geek Events to bring such a unique experience like Heroes & Foes to Tamworth.

“This is an absolutely fantastic activity for all to enjoy, it’s not just for comic book fans, film buffs and gamers – there will be plenty on offer to keep kids, parents and grandparents thoroughly entertained.

“Not forgetting our stars of the big and small screen who will be making a special appearance,” continued Mark, “Here at Ankerside, we love nothing more than seeing families getting together for memorable days out and this Saturday is set to be one we’ll be talking about for a long time.”

Mark Longman, event organiser at Geeks Events, said: We’re looking forward to bringing our shopping centre-based, free event to the town of Tamworth this Saturday, and should visitors enjoy the experience, we aim to bring it back to the centre in 2020.”
